Why Use Diesel Fuel?

If you are a business owner contemplating making the switch to diesel fuel, here are some things you should know:

  • It’s environmentally friendly. Thanks to rising EPA standards, the fuels that are out on the market today are cleaner and greener than ever and manufacturers are constantly working to reduce the amount of hazardous exposure.
  • Diesel engines are efficient. In fact, they are more efficient than gasoline engines. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, engines powered by gasoline typically operate at an efficiency level of about 12%-30%. The average diesel engine operates at about 40% efficiency.
  • There are no spark plugs with diesel engines. Diesel engines work when the heat that is already in an internal combustion chamber ignites, therefore powering the fuel. This is different than gasoline engines that mix gas with air, which creates vapor that then gets compressed and ignited by a spark plug.
  • Diesel engines operate best below 2,000 revolutions per minute (RPM). To reach peak power, a diesel engine should stay at 65 miles per hour or under. Gasoline engines need to maintain much higher RPM to operate.
