Now that summer is in full swing, you’re going to be depending on your AC more and more to keep you and your family comfortably cool in your southeastern Massachusetts home. If your AC is running but not adequately cooling your house, there are a few things you can check before you call for service.
AC Troubleshooting Checklist
If your AC is running but your home isn’t cooling down, here are some things to try before you contact W.H. Riley to request service:
- Check your thermostat and make sure it’s set to “cool” or “air conditioning.”
- Inspect all the vents in your home to make sure they’re not obstructed by anything (furniture, curtains, etc.).
- Check that the fan on the outdoor unit (the condenser) is running. If it isn’t running, check the power switch on the unit itself. Then check your circuit breakers. Finally, turn off the power and check inside the condenser unit for debris.
- Make sure all power switches for the indoor unit are on.
- Check the air filters and clean or replace any that are clogged according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
