Seasonal Propane Delivery: Preparing for Winter and Summer
Make deliveries safe and easy
Here at W.H. Riley & Son, we do the heavy lifting (both physically and metaphorically) when it comes to propane deliveries. We take care of loading up the truck, transporting the fuel and the actual refilling process. While we certainly do the large majority of the work, we do still need some help from homeowners prior to our arrival.
Not only will this help us with the actual fuel delivery, but it will help you too. We’ll be out of your hair faster and we won’t have to bother you with unnecessary questions. In other words, preparing for a propane delivery is a win-win situation for everyone.
The Importance of Prepping for a Delivery
Things tend to move more smoothly and efficiently with a little preparation, and a propane delivery is no exception.
Additionally, proper prep helps keep the W.H. Riley & Son drivers and delivery personnel safe and out of harm’s way.
What to Do in the Winter Before a Propane Delivery
Homeowners here in southeastern Massachusetts probably don’t need us to point out how much winter weather can potentially impact a propane delivery.
Prior to a winter propane delivery, you should:
- Clear off any snow or ice that may be blocking your house number so that it is visible from the street. If you are expecting a fuel delivery in the late afternoon or evening, make sure your outside lights are on to allow for added visibility.
- If it has recently snowed, shovel any snow from your driveway and the path that leads up to your propane tank. Salt any areas that may be icy and slippery.
- If you have an underground propane tank, put a flag or a marker near the fill pipe so that it can easily be found even if there is snow on the ground.
- Clear any snow and ice from your exterior vents.
Don’t forget to schedule your propane delivery in advance. You don’t want to wait until the last minute and then have trouble scheduling a tank refill. This can potentially leave you without heat or hot water, which is obviously less than ideal for anyone who lives in our area.
What to Do in the Summer Before a Propane Delivery
You don’t have to deal with snow or ice in the summer, but if you, like many of us, enjoy spending time outside in the spring and summer, your outdoor living areas can still get messy and cluttered.
Prior to a summer propane delivery, you should:
- Put your pets either inside or in an area outside that is completely separate from where your propane tank is located and secure, as they can be a safety hazard.
- Clear any insect nests that are near your fuel tank or vents to help avoid operational issues.
- Put away or move any toys, bikes or outdoor furniture that may be blocking the path to your tank.
- Clear off any tree branches and debris from the path leading to your tank.
