How Much Propane Does A Stove Use?
Keep cooking with propane from W.H. Riley & Son
There are many appliances throughout a home or business that can easily become a propane appliance. One of these is a stove.
A stove that is powered by propane offers multiple benefits to any chef that cooks on it. They provide precise temperature control, their burners heat very quickly and then cool down quickly once they are off and they emit less carbon dioxide than electric stoves do.
Considering how important a stove can be to a household and how integral they are to any food related business you are obviously going to want to keep them up and running at all times. You therefore have to have an idea about how much propane they will need and use so that you can plan and place your fuel orders accordingly.
The amount of propane that a stove will need
Residential stoves can typically run on about 35 gallons of propane a year. This figure is an estimate and the exact amount of fuel that a home goes through annually is impacted by multiple factors. For example, you have to consider how many people are living in your house as well as how much cooking your family does at home. If you cook a lot you may very well exceed this estimate of 35 gallons of propane a year and need closer to 60 gallons.
The good news is that this is pretty low when it comes to annual fuel usage. Propane makes this number low thanks to the fact that it is so efficient. In fact, one single gallon of propane produces approximately 91,502 British Thermal Units of heat energy!
Powering your whole home with propane
A stove is hardly the only appliance that can be a propane appliance. In fact, pretty much any appliance that can be powered with electricity can also be powered with propane. You can use propane for your home heating system, warming your home’s water, warming the water in your pool or spa, powering a clothes dryer, igniting non-wood burning fireplaces and powering a backup generator.
Of course, the addition of a propane appliance to your home will affect how much fuel you will need and use.
Homes that use propane to cook and to power clothes dryers should estimate using between about 50 and 100 gallons of propane a year.
If you are warming your home’s water with propane prepare to use between about 300 and 400 gallons of propane annually.
Heating an average sized home (about 2,220 square feet) with propane will take about 800 and 1,200 gallons of propane a year.
There is no such thing as having too many propane appliances in a home. You just have to make sure you have enough fuel to go around to keep them all up and running!
