Long-Term Durability: Diesel Engines vs. Gasoline Engines
W.H. Riley can keep your engines running with diesel fuel
Some of the products that we buy and use will inevitably need to be replaced. However, until they get to this point, it is in a consumer’s best interest to do what he or she can to help the items that they use and rely upon on a regular basis to last as long as possible. For some people this may mean choosing diesel fuel over traditional gasoline.
Help your engines last with diesel fuel
Engines that are powered with diesel fuel typically outlast engines that are powered with your standard gasoline.
With proper and regular maintenance a diesel engine can usually last for several hundred thousand miles. Sometimes you can even get to over a million! Typically an engine that is powered with gas only lasts about 200,000 miles.
There are a few factors that contribute to the longevity of a diesel-powered engine.
The first is the fact that diesel engines are intentionally designed and built with durable materials that work hand in hand with high pressures and temperatures.
Compared to gasoline, diesel fuel also has significantly better lubricating properties. This helps cut down on the amount of friction that impacts certain components of an engine, which, in turn, adds some years onto an engine’s life.
Additionally, there is less wear and tear on a diesel engine thanks to the fact that it can safely run between 1,200 and 1,600 revolutions per minute (RPM). This a low RPM compared to a gasoline engine, which can do double that. An engine deteriorates faster when it has to complete more RPMs.
Maintenance also adds to an engine’s longevity
The key to making most things last is proper care and maintenance and a diesel engine is no exception to this rule. This is the best way to make sure your engine is working at peak performance level. It is also the best way to catch any small issues before they turn into massive and expensive problems.
Professional maintenance on a diesel engine should include an oil change, an oil tune-up and a tire pressure check.
The additional benefits of diesel fuel
Long-term durability is not the only benefit diesel fuel offers to its customers. It is also eco-friendly, great for a vehicle’s efficiency, reduces the amount of maintenance your engine needs and gives an engine a strong boost of power.
