About North Attleboro

In the Pre-Colonial Era, the land that is now North Attleboro was traversed by the significant Native American trail known as the Bay Path, leading to Narragansett Bay, the Seekonk River, and Boston. The arrival of English settlers in 1634 marked the beginning of a new chapter in the region’s history.

Small grist and sawmills were strategically placed along the Ten Mile River, leading to the establishment of nail factories, which then transitioned to cotton spinning mills. The rise of cotton spinning was due to the import embargo during the War of 1812. By 1832, textiles and jewelry manufacturing had become the town’s core industries. Button production gained significance during the American Civil War, with U.S. Army orders for badges and medals. Attleboro’s button industry thrived, surpassing all other U.S. regions in 1834. By 1855, 24 jewelry-making establishments in Attleboro generated nearly $1 million in revenue.

Thanks to its proximity to Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, North Attleboro has been the home of many professional football players over the years, including:

  • Jerod Mayo
  • Chris Sullivan
  • Anthony Sherman

Steve Pearce, the MVP of the 2018 World Series for the champion Boston Red Sox, also lived in North Attleboro.
